To the Mary MacKillop community
I hope you are well.
This past fortnight has brought some real challenges. I want to start by thanking the members of the community who have been so kind and supportive to the College during the difficult days last week. We very much appreciated your good wishes and contributions. Please do keep Bianca’s family in your prayers.
Crying is okay. There were a lot of tears in the school on Friday and Monday and I know we will have a lot next Thursday during Bianca’s funeral. This is okay. In a very real way, it is an incredibly positive thing. I don’t mean this in a voyeuristic way. What I mean is that I feel that the Beatitude, ‘blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted’ has the most incredible relevance for our community right now.
There is very little that could be more tragic than the sudden death of a child. We have no way of comprehending the why - as a community we must simply exist within the now. One thing I am sure of though is that visceral moments like this help a community of faithful encounter the Real Presence of God.
None of us will be alone as we farewell Bianca. As much as we struggle with it, and wish it wasn’t so, our tears for her and our mourning will bring comfort to us.
God bless you, her, and those she leaves who loved her most.
