Growth brings new subjects & new leadership positions

Monday, 03 Aug 2020

Senior students at Mary MacKillop Catholic College recently attended a subject evening with a difference, with the Virtual Subject Showcase being delivered entirely online.  Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning, Mr Kris Naiker gave a live hour-long presentation on the different pathways available for students as well as explanations about ATAR and assessment.

The College is very excited about the increased number of elective subjects offered to years 9-10.  From 2021, subjects like Journalism, Agricultural Science, Maths Reasoning and PE Community Sports (Touch Football) will be introduced.  In total, there are 22 electives for years 9 and 10 to choose from.  Year 11 students will have the increased options of Food and Nutrition, Drama, Legal Studies and Literature as well as the suite of School Based Apprenticeships and certificate courses.  For a growing senior College that will be just over 300 students in 2021, this is a very broad and rich curriculum.

To aid this growth the College has had a restructure of Middle Leadership.  New posts such as a Dean of Senior Studies, and two leaders of Sport and the Arts will ensure that students have the support and encouragement of teachers in accessing academic learning, securing engagement and creating a positive College culture.

These roles, plus others supporting Formation, English, Maths and Science, will be advertised and appointed in August for a January 2021 start.
